London: Places I’ve Visited So Far

Yay!

Finally there’s internet connection back at this rented house :)

Time for some updates!

These are some of the places I’ve visited in London so far.. and I am trying to not upload too many, so not to boring you guys with too many photos! :D The rest will be uploaded into facebook!

.

.

.

After reaching London, the first tourist attraction place I’ve visited was:-

Covent Garden!

This place is full of 19th century market halls, perfect for shopping! It’s like high-class ‘pasar pagi’ with nice food and coffee latte.. and full of souvenir stalls and handcrafts!

The best thing about this place is.. it doesn’t smell like Malaysia’s pasar!!

Oh, and Covent Garden is also well-known for its street performances!

.

.

.

The next place was.. Chinatown!

This place is a must-visit place, especially if you are planning to stay for quite some time in London.. cause you will need to go there in Leicester Square for some Malaysian food and shopping..

If you need milo, just go there! There are shops that sell Malaysian food and their portion is in Godzilla’s size! Once I ordered an Indian Mamak-style fried mee which priced at £7.. and I can’t even finish half of its portion!

.

.

.

Next, Buckingham Palace! The Queen’s residence place!

Too bad I reached there late in the evening on that day, thus I didn’t get to see much.

I definitely will be back for the ‘Changing of the Guard’ ceremony! :D

.

.

.

This is the Victoria Memorial, located right in front of the main gates of the Buckingham Palace.

.

.

.

Then, the beautiful view of the London Eye at night!

.

.

.

Next, the Piccadilly Circus!

To be honest, I don’t really see what is so good/famous about this place. I keep hearing about how it is very famous and etc. My bf kept telling me that this place is a tourist attraction (which is true, I could see all the shops here are selling postcards, T-shirts and all sorts of souvenirs) but I still don’t get what is so good about it other than souvenir shopping and the night clubs! I wikipedia-ed and it says:

Piccadilly Circus is a famous road junction and public space of London’s West End in the City of Westminster, built in 1819 to connect Regent Street with the major shopping street of Piccadilly. In this context a circus, from the Latin word meaning a circle, is a circular open space at a street junction.

The Circus is particularly known for its video display and neon signs mounted on the corner building on the northern side.

The neon signs they were talking about are exactly the neon signs on the background of my photo- so what’s so special about it? Our Kuala Lumpur’s version located at the opposite side of the Lot10 and on the Bukit Bintang’s McDonald’s is also not too bad!

This is the wall of the underground tube at the Piccaddilly Circus’ station.

.

.

.

Then, I was at the National Gallery at Trafalgar Square.

I have yet to enter the National Gallery but I heard from my friends that it is very nice inside and the best thing is.. its free entry! I wanted to visit it today but then I am down with flu so I have decided to rest in at home today and visit it another day! :D

.

.

.

Next place: St Paul’s Cathedral.

It is indeed a very very nice cathedral, caught my eyes even from afar! I think I learnt about it before in my ‘History of Architecture’ paper when I was doing my diploma!

Too bad it was at night and it’s closed..we were doing our “Pub Crawl” event then.. so we didn’t get to go in for a visit!

.

.

.

The photo below was taken at the Millennium Bridge:

These people I was with are the students studying Civil Engineering in Imperial College, so that explains why they were so excited about the bridge. (or actually they are just as crazy as the Malaysian bloggers who love the camera! Especially when they are high on alcohol!) I shall blog about our “Pub Crawl” event another day!

.

.

.

The night view at the Big Ben, London! Wuhoo!

.

.

.

And on a different day.. the day view of the Big Ben!

I love this place! The view is.. spectacular!!! With the Big Ben and Houses of Parliament.. and the London Eye.. and not to forget the beautiful River Thames..

.

.

Coincidentally, I went there on the very same day the protest was on by the Greenpeace activists.

The protesters climbed onto the roof of the Houses of Parliament to protest against the climate change and everywhere was surrounded by police and reporters.

.

.

.

Next, it was the Westminster Abbey!

It’s located right next to the Big Ben and I was a bit confused as the signboard there was written as ‘St Margaret’s Church’ and then in a smaller font, ‘Wesminster Abbey’.

.

.

.

The view.. of the River Thames..

I remember the lecturer who taught us the History of Architecture had told us many, many times before that the River Cruise in the Thames River London is a must-go, at least once in a lifetime. She told us how it was very beautiful and we will never regret getting on it. Back then, I never knew I would be coming to London at all and I had absolutely no idea when I was gonna come over as I have yet to meet my current boyfriend.

Yes, I will definitely get on the River Cruise in the next few weeks!

.

.

More pics coming up..

Til then, ciao!
