Sharing My Experience on Cabin Crew’s Open Day & Interviews..
Filed under: Cabin crew and Sharing and Thoughts & Emo

.

Sorry for the lack of updates. My apologies.

The reason being is that I went for another airline’s interviews last weekends. Did you notice I typed “interviews”.. in plural? :)

I won’t mention the name of the airline but I can say it is a well-known one and it’s based in the middle east. They held an open day in a hotel in Kuala Lumpur last weekend and I thought, why not give it a try?! And so I went.

The open day was supposed to start at 9am but I reached around 7.50am … of course we have to show some sincerity and it’s a BIG NO NO to be late. Even though I was early, BUT there were MANY others who were earlier than me LOL! Funny enough, many of them didn’t want to sit at the first row.. and tips to the other Cabin Crew Wannabes out there, DO GET THE FRONT SEATS! Why?? Because you want to impress the interviewers and also to leave them your best and deepest impressions possible! Make them remember you! But at the same time, of course you have to be at your best and smile as much as you can..be friendly and talk to your neighbours sitting beside you.. show them you are friendly and good in making friends!

Later on, the open day started when they showed us a video about the airline and the country we are gonna be placed at if we were to get the job.. followed by a briefing about the job and etc.. and then Q&A session.. it took us roughly 3 hours for the entire thing to end… and the climax of the open day was the submission of our resume/CV together with our photos. Imagine, we waited whole morning just for a brief few seconds to submit our things to the interviewers (one from UK with British Accent and another from South America with Spanish accent) and we were told to go home to wait for the phone call. They had to make sure that we look the same in the photos or else they would have to take down some notes as reminders coz they were gonna revise who to take for the next round through the photos we submitted (that’s why I say it’s important to sit at the front row, else how would they remember you if you were only gonna see them for a brief few secs while submitting your CV??).

We were told that the latest phone call will be by 6pm and if we don’t receive any news by then, then we are not in for the second round.. which was the next day! I went home feeling really sleepy but was afraid that I might miss the call so I tried so hard to stay awake the whole afternoon and I had to make sure I had full reception to receive that call! It was 3pm and no news… 4pm and still no news!!! Waited until 5pm.. NO NEWS!! WTF!! I was one of the earliest to submit my CV and they should have called me way before 6pm, right?! So I thought I failed :( I gave up and I went to nap, but with the phone by my side of coz.. just in case they call.. AND I WAS RIGHT! At 5.30pm, I finally received a phone call with an unknown landline number and someone with British Accent was speaking on the phone!! LOL JOY TO THE WORLD!! I knew I got in as soon as I heard that British Accent-speaking woman!! Was informed that the second stage is at 10am the very next day!

SECOND INTERVIEW- 10am, same hotel in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. About only 50++ of us were selected out of the hundreds who came for the open day before.

We were gathered and briefed in a conference room in that very hotel and then were given an English test comprising of about 30 questions (I forgot how many).. but all of them were multiple choice questions.. we were tested on our understanding (read a story and answer questions).. and then grammar questions.. and tested on random stuff and also tested if we know how to calculate the hours like (for eg: if Doha is 3 hours ahead of London and it’s 5pm in London, what time is Doha?).. and second part was to write a short essay based on a topic given by them which was really tough.. we had only 50 minuted to finish all that and we must stop as soon as they say the time is up.. Else they would say we don’t know how to follow instructions and so we don’t qualify to be a Cabin Crew.. while we were doing the test, one by one were called to the front to see if we can touch 212cm with shoes off.. but thank God we were allowed to tip toe.. many couldn’t reach the 212cm.. And while we were at the front doing that height test, they were observing our body language closely and they asked us a question or two to see how we reacted..

Then, when the 50 mins were up, we were asked to leave the room for 30mins++ so they could mark all our papers and decide who passed and who not. OMG KAN JIONG!!! So nervous!!! Everyone was really tensed during the break.. and the result was finally out.. More than half of the people.. about 30++ ppl failed (some failed bcoz they couldn’t reach 212cm n some bcoz of the test) and they said their goodbyes to each other while the remaining 22 ppl stayed for the next round- group discussions.. we were divided into 2 groups and then were given 2 questions for us to discuss amongst each other in the group while they were walking around the room to observe us.. see how we interact with each other.. then we were asked again to leave the room for 15mins so the interviewers could discuss and see who to eliminate this time..

After 15mins, a few ppl were eliminated.. if I didn’t count wrongly, only 17 ppl left for the final interview..we were briefed about what to bring for the final interview and were given an application form to fill in.. which was 6 pages long omg.. so much to fill in.. and then we were asked to take new photos (passport size n full length) to bring during the final interview coz they say the photos are for the HQ management to see and decide whether to hire us (which means the photos are super important in getting the job coz the management has never seen us before and will only judge us base on the photos!)

And that’s it for the second interview. I MADE IT TO THE FINAL INTERVIEW OMFG I WAS SUPER HAPPY! Can you imagine? Out of the many hundreds of people who came during the open day, I am now one of the last 17 candidates who made it to the final interview? I couldn’t have been luckier!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FINAL INTERVIEW- same hotel again.. but this time it was far more relaxing.. owh and before that, let me just share my story on how I spent the whole of the afternoon on the day before the final interview to get the best photos taken possible to be submitted. I drove to 3 different photo studios here and there and everywhere…. and it was bloody hot on that day. I am officially sun-tanned now but it’s totally worth it! Oh and not to mention, I also spent a good amount of money on the photos bcoz I was so upset with the photos taken in the first 2 studios and I hate to admit but those photos WERE RUBBISH!!!!!!! RUBBBISH!! TOTALLY RUBBISH!! I would definitely fail if I were to submit those photos!! FOR SURE!! And finally I got to learnt about the 3rd studio and went home with the nicer photos and a satisfaction on my face :) and filled up the super long application forms and prepared for the final interview.
The final interview was pretty much like a chit-chat session with the interviewers. They were really nice and friendly and chatty. We had to go in one by one and they basically asked questions related to our past working experience..something that we can answer.. like what I worked as last time n what I did in a certain situation.. They basically want to test and see how we dealt with tough situations or how we worked as a team and how much responsibilities we had during past employment..
LUCKILY NO technical questions asked.. like “What aircrafts does XXX Airlines have?” or “What awards did XXX Airlines get in 2009?”.. Phew! I was asked these 2 questions during my last final interview with the previous airline I blogged about!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

But one thing for sure, they asked me if it was my first time applying to that airline during the open day.. and also during the final interview.. and even on the application form! I don’t know why and how it is going to affect the application but lucky for me, it was my first time! I think those who applied before might have lesser chance!?

Alright for now, I’ll pray that I will pass the final interview (results will be out within 3 weeks) and IF I am lucky enough to pass it.. then I will have to pray that my medical check-up will not give me any problems!! XD

Let’s pray that this airline accept my mild scoliosis!! There is still hope!! XD

I heard that this airline accepts mild scoliosis with a maximum of 15 degree  and mine is below 15 degree!! Let’s hope for the best!

AND THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR READING UNTIL THIS POINT. GOSH THIS IS A RECORD!!! I’ve never written such a longggg post before..!!!! ;)

p/s: it’s 5am already and I am dying for some sleep. please pardon me for any mistakes in this post esp grammar mistakes k! XD nites!
